PROFI agricultural machinery magazine, issue 31, describes the work and the main advantages of the Müthing MU-M/S Plus Vario 220 mulcher. We invite you to read an excerpt from their article:
Adaptable to all conditions
Specialist German manufacturer Müthing has a versatile unit in its range - the MU-M/S Plus Vario 220 side-mounted shredder - which we put to the test.
Müthing launched its new side-mounted crop residue shredders at the last Agritechnica. There are three models: 2.20, 2.50 and 2.80 m. For practical tests, we borrowed the narrowest one with a working width of 2.20 m.
With this machine, we shredded plant residues on roadsides, ditch slopes and field margins. For those users who prefer this way of working but also need the option of shredding maize stubble, Müthing has dedicated a 2.80 m wide model. Together with the matching front chopper, the total working width of the machine is approximately 5.00 m.

Benefits of MU-M/S Plus Vario 220
- MU-M/S Plus Vario plant residue shredder original design solutionswhich are not available on other Müthing units.
- Within the adjustment range of this plant residue shredder no equal in class.
- The adjustment range is large, -60° to +90°, so there's enough reclining angle for practically all life situations.
- Large, lateral displacement of more than 1,00 m adjustable two-way hydraulic system (HS) distributor section.
- See two functional modes: for shredding plant residues on smooth surface and working on slopes.
- For lateral feed, a parallelogram mechanism is used, which also has protection in the event of the shredder hitting a stumbling block. Important note - protection works both wayswhich is a big advantage when working between poles and trees.
- Müthing has been officially represented in Lithuania only since May this year. The most popular shredders in our country are the MU-L Vario and MU-L/S Vario series.

User comment: Not cheap, but a really good unit
Alexander Hollfelder, who farms in Scheslitz, in the German state of Bavaria, has purchased MU-M/S Plus 250 a shredder for plant residues. He said he had originally borrowed a 2.80 m wide demonstration unit, but found it too wide. For this reason, a modification with a working width of 2.50 m was chosen. "With the 2.50 m wide shredder, everything goes like clockwork, even with the front shredder, when dealing with maize stubble"," says Mr Holfelder.
The farm uses this shredder to provide municipal services, not only to maintain roadsides but also ditches. Tractors with both electric proportional and classic mechanical control of the HS distributor sections are used for aggregation, and in both cases the chopper adjustment is smooth. Holfelder's assessment of the adjustability is good: "It's a really good solution and much better than the previous Müthing shredders," he says. With his current crop residue shredder, he can work measurably faster and more accurately. "This shredder is not cheap, but its performance at this price is really something," says Holfelder.
